This week has been a very boring week for my blanket. I did not learn any new stitches, I only made more squares with the stitches I had already learned. I am currently trying to make as many blue and white squares as I can because I do not like the stitch I chose for the pink squares. I know that in the end I will probably be very behind in pink squares, but it is just something I am going to have to deal with. I am going to try and learn a new stitch for my pink squares later next week.
I was very busy all week so I did not have much time to work on my squares, but the time I did have I mainly worked on my white waffle stitch squares. I completed one entire waffle stitch square, which is not very much progress for the week. Next week is going to be a very hard working week for me. I am going to use every minute of free time I have working on this blanket. I had a few complications with my square this week. When I originally resumed working on this square I accidentally used the wrong stitch. When I was crocheting something did not feel right so I looked at my past work on the waffle stitch square and the stitches were not the same. I figured out that I was doing a half-double crochet stitch instead of a regular double crochet. This complication only happened for one row in my square before I fixed it, and you can barely even notice that there is something wrong with the square. I did not completely undo this stitch because it did not look very different than the rest of the square, and I also did not want to spend the extra time re-crocheting my square.

After learning how to crochet a camel stitch last week, I really did not have much more time to work on the camel stitch. I practiced enough with the stitch to say that I had mastered it. I ended up not liking the stitch very much. It used a lot of yarn and it was very time consuming to make a square. I would be okay with these consequences if the stitch pattern was interesting, but it was not. The pink square just ended up looking like a bunch of tightly crocheted lines smashed together. I might end up changing it up and learning a different stitch next week if I have time. I was just really disappointed in the outcome of the camel stitch.
This week was my first week I have gone without learning a new stitch. I had a really busy week so I thought that it would be best to just work on making more squares for my blanket. I worked a little bit on the pink camel stitch square, and that is when I began to realize that I did not really like the stitch. After working on the pink square a little bit I decided to work on my blue squares. The blue squares are made with the half-double crochet stitch, which is a very beginner stitch. I worked on my blue square when I was in the car because the half-double crochet stitch was the easiest to work with. I ended up finishing two blue squares during the car ride. I did not work on my white waffle stitch square in the car this week, so I will probably be focusing on those squares this week. I am going to be busy again this week but hopefully the long car rides will give me enough time to work on a lot more crocheting. After watching a video and learning how to do a waffle stitch last week, I ended up making one and a half white squares. After I finished my first square, I did not have much time to finish the second so I only ended up getting half of it done. As of right now I have one blue square, one white square, one half of a white square, and one half of a blue square. I am going to Florida this week and I plan to bring my crocheting supplies so that I can work on my blanket.
This week was the last week of learning a new stitch for my blanket squares. After the squares I still have to learn how to do a lining stitch, but I am going to learn that later. I looked through my usual website for a crochet stitch to do, but I ended up not liking any of them. So I decided to go to YouTube and search for some popular stitches. I found a video* explaining how to crochet a camel stitch for beginners, and I thought that the stitch looked cool so I decided to click on the video. I got my pink yarn so that I could work alongside the video. After I watched the first part of the video and I tried to do what I had just learned, I thought I was going to have to try a different stitch. I was just so confused on how I was supposed to do this stitch. After watching the beginning of the video a couple times, I figured out what I had to do. This stitch was different than the other stitches I had done. Usually I could get into a rhythm with my crocheting, but not with this stitch. I was always having to pull at the stitches and pull them apart, so that I could see what I was doing. Sources: Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1_HlaZpmL4 Since my last blog post I have been practicing my half-double crochet stitch a lot. I made a long column of half-double crochet stitches, just to practice. When I finally felt that I was experienced enough, I went out and bought the materials for my blanket. My blanket is going to be a large rectangle made from smaller pink, blue, and white squares. Each one of the squares will have a different type of stitch, and in the end I will make a black edge around the entire blanket. I am planning on making the black outline a very difficult stitch, to challenge my new crocheting abilities.
For last week's stitch I used blue yarn, and for this week's stitch I decided to use my white yarn. I decided to go for a harder stitch that would stand out. I decided to do this stitch with white yarn, so that the white would stand out in the blanket. This week I decided that I would learn a waffle stitch. I had seen and heard of this stitch before this week, and I thought that it would be a cool stitch for me to learn. I went on YouTube and looked up how to do a waffle stitch and I found this video*. I watched the video one time before I began crocheting. I watched the video again and I worked along with the video this time, trying to learn the stitch. I had to restart twice because I kept messing up the stitch. On my third try I managed to perfect the waffle stitch. I worked on my waffle stitch square all day Friday, and by Friday night I had my first white square done. If I have time this week I will be continuing to make my white waffle stitch squares.
