This week was my first week of learning a new stitch for my Genius Hour project. Over the summer I learned how to crochet, but I only learned how to do one simple stitch, a single stitch. I became really good at this stitch but I had no idea how good I would be at more complicated stitches. Because of this reason, I decided to stick to a relatively beginner stitch to start my project this week I visited a website* that told me the 10 most popular crochet stitches. This website had pictures of all the stitches that were listed, so I scrolled through those stitches to see if there were any that I liked. There was a video attached to the top of the website that taught you how to do a few beginner stitches. So I decided to stick with one of those for now. This week I will be learning the half-double crochet stitch. This stitch is smaller than a double crochet but larger than a single crochet. It is a perfect medium sized stitch. After watching the video from the website I decided to go to YouTube for a more in depth tutorial for this stitch. I watched a video* of a woman showing exactly how she did the crochet stitch while she was doing it in front of the camera. I worked along with the video, and I messed up a few times, but I ended up finally getting the stitch. I am going to be working all week to try and perfect this stitch. To practice I am making squares with a chain length of 20. I will be making different colored squares for this stitch, and different colored squares for other stitches as well. These squares are going to be used to make parts of the blanket I am making as my final project. Sources:
